Convert GIMP brushes to Krita

Converting a .gbr to .kpp rebuilds the brush as native Krita settings rather than a flat image. The tip image embeds in the preset and texture scale maps onto Krita's 0 to 200% range. The result screen names what carried over from the .gbr and what was adjusted to fit Krita.

How it works

1. Upload your GIMP brush. Drop the .gbr / .gih / .vbr file into the converter. We support multi-brush files.
2. Pick Krita as the target. You can select several targets at once and get one download per format.
3. Download and install. Import through Settings › Manage Resources…, or drop the .kpp into your Krita resource folder and restart Krita. The brush tip embeds in the preset.

What carries over

From GIMP: Brush tips with their size and spacing from .gbr and .gih files (the first frame of an animated brush), plus the full parametric recipe of a .vbr file: radius, hardness, aspect ratio and angle.

Writing to Krita: The brush tip embeds in the preset, and texture settings map onto Krita's 0 to 200 percent texture scale. Brushes that mix color map to Krita's Color Smudge engine behavior where possible.
