Convert GIMP brushes to Photoshop

Converting a .gbr to .abr rebuilds the brush as native Photoshop settings rather than a flat image. Tip imagery, grain with its blend mode and pressure curves are written as native Photoshop controls. The result screen names what carried over from the .gbr and what was adjusted to fit Photoshop.

How it works

Upload your GIMP brush. Drop the .gbr / .gih / .vbr file into the converter. We support multi-brush files.
Pick Photoshop as the target. You can select several targets at once and get one download per format.
Download and install. In Photoshop, open Window › Brushes, then use the panel menu › Import Brushes… and pick the .abr file. On iPad, import from the Brushes panel.

What carries over

From GIMP: Brush tips with their size and spacing from .gbr and .gih files (the first frame of an animated brush), plus the full parametric recipe of a .vbr file: radius, hardness, aspect ratio and angle.

Writing to Photoshop: Dynamics are written as native Photoshop controls. Grain becomes a Photoshop texture with the closest blend mode, verified against real commercial .abr files.
