Convert Photoshop brushes to GIMP

Converting a .abr to .gbr rebuilds the brush as native GIMP settings rather than a flat image. Bitmap tips are written as native .gbr brushes, and pen dynamics travel as a matching Paint Dynamics preset beside them. The result screen names what carried over from the .abr and what was adjusted to fit GIMP.

How it works

1. Upload your Photoshop brush. Drop the .abr file into the converter. We support multi-brush files.
2. Pick GIMP as the target. You can select several targets at once and get one download per format.
3. Download and install. Copy the file into GIMP's brushes folder. You can find this under Edit › Preferences › Folders › Brushes. Then click the refresh button in the Brushes dialog.

What carries over

From Photoshop: Brush tips, grain with its blend mode and depth, spacing, scatter, and the full pressure dynamics with their curves and minimum floors.

Writing to GIMP: Bitmap tips are written as native .gbr brushes at their intended size. Computed round and square tips become .vbr files so hardness, roundness, and angle stay adjustable. Pressure, tilt, and jitter dynamics travel as a matching Paint Dynamics preset written beside the brush. Grain has no equivalent in GIMP, and the result screen names anything that had to be adjusted.
