Convert Photoshop brushes to GIMP
.abr → .gbr in your browser. Textures, grain and pressure curves carry over — and the result screen lists exactly what was preserved and what was adjusted.
How it works
- Upload your Photoshop brush. Drop the .abr file into the converter. Multi-brush files are supported.
- Pick GIMP as the target. You can select several targets at once and get one download per format.
- Download and install. Copy the file into GIMP's brushes folder (Edit › Preferences › Folders › Brushes shows where it is), then click the refresh button in the Brushes dialog.
What carries over
From Photoshop: Tip imagery, texture/grain with its blend mode and depth, spacing, scatter, and the full pressure dynamics (size, opacity, flow) with their curves and minimum floors.
Writing to GIMP: Bitmap tips are written as native .gbr brushes at their intended size; computed round and square tips become .vbr, GIMP's editable parametric format, so hardness, roundness and angle stay adjustable. GIMP brush files hold no pressure dynamics or grain texture — GIMP keeps dynamics in its own Paint Dynamics presets — and the result screen names anything left behind.
